PrEP is recommended for individuals at high risk of HIV, and it involves taking antiretroviral medications regularly to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. Discover the importance of healthcare providers accessing individuals' risk factors to determine if PrEP is appropriate for them. PrEP is highly effective when taken consistently. The two main medications approved for PrEP are Truvada (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate/emtricitabine) and Descovy (tenofovir alafenamide/emtricitabine). Both medications have been shown to significantly reduce the risk of HIV transmission when taken as directed.
